6 Year Ram

Come On Six

After five wonderful years in the NFL, Johnny Hekker, number six is facing his sixth year with the Rams, four years in St. Louis and last year they moved to Los Angeles.

Hard to believe this start

Would end up with a three-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler
The move happened with lots of media exposure and fanfare. It was documented on the NFL channel and with HBO and NFL Film's "Hard Knocks" on their sports network. It was a huge transition with multiple moves involved. Training camp, OTAs and Practice fields were all in different places and all the players had to find new places to live and move their families.

St. Louis was a great city to Johnny and our family. We loved visiting.  Hang Time with Hekk on the news station, and What the Hekk radio show on ESPN were both great and we could enjoy them from the internet here at home.

What the HekkThere have been some advantages however to being in LA. Primary is that it is only a two hour flight from home. It is also a quicker commute in the off season for Johnny. LA is also giving Johnny chances to stretch himself. Pokemon commercials and What the Hekk cohosted by Dani Kluppenger are prime examples.

During these six amazing years there have been so many opportunities. First and foremost the Rams have been a great avenue to continue the charities that are so important to Johnny. He has been involved in Special Olympics since jr. high school. He also had the privilege of working with SSM Cancer Center in St. Louis, and beginning with Waterboys, (Chris Long's Organization) as the Rams representative bring water to communities in Africa with no clean water sources.  He does Play 60 events and weighs opportunities asked of him that fit in his schedule. He has a humble heart and always is looking for ways to give back. That is how we roll at the Hekker house. He has had two Walter Payton Man of the Year Nominations, a great honor given by the team.

Two years ago he married his college sweetheart, Makayla. She is an amazing athlete herself. She is a multiple time All American gymnast who competed in all round in Nationals.  Both are Oregon State Alumni. She was something to see! Because of that she understands the committment athletic sports demands, and is amazing support. They are two years married and such a joy to the family.

Johnny is not by any means the only success story in this family. We have five boys that are wonderful grown men with families and careers that offer them blessings and honor in their homes and community. We are all Rams fans because of Johnny, but we are all Family First fans of eachother.
