An Unexpected Birthday Party

Friday October 7th. What a special day in Nashville, TN.
Joy and I were able to get tickets to a show at the Grand Ole Opry this evening. We had no idea it was such a special day. It was only when we got to the show that we found out they were celebrating the Grand Ole Opry’s 92 birthday.

  • Ricky Skaggs and his group Kentucky Thunder paid tribute to Bill Monroe by singing one of Mr. Monroe’s first songs he played at the Grand Ole Opry. I have always enjoyed the fast-paced tempo of Kentucky Thunder.
  • Connie Smith and her band did a beautiful arrangement of Amazing Grace.
  • Diamond Rio was also there. It was fun to hear some of their songs and realize I didn’t really know who they were but I sure recognized some of their songs from back in the day.
  • The Oak Ridge Boys were full of energy. It is hard to believe the guy with the long white beard, William Lee Golden is 78 years old. He sings with so much energy. Heck…they all do. The bass singer is 74 and the tenor is 69. These guys age well.
  • Vince Gill did a beautiful job when he shared about the tragedy at the country music concert last week in Las Vegas. He dedicated his last song, Go Rest High on the Mountain to the 58 who were killed. What a powerful, moving performance.

Bob and his big Hummingbird guitar introduced the Admiral to America's music.

The group Dorado warms up the waiting crowd outside the venue.
Note: Here's to Uber who gets you into the best entrances, takes you home faster, and gives great ride
If you ever get the chance, do it. Worth every penny!

At the end of the evening they rolled out a big cake. The singers came out and sang happy birthday to the Grand Ole Opry as tons of balloons fell from the ceiling. What a night!!
