Atlantic Sunrise - Florida Nights

Leading the way again the Admiral ushered us into our most southern state on this trip. We were excited knowing after this Ram's game we could head north to cooler weather. We Washingtonians are just not used to more than two days above 80 degrees in a whole year. It is supposed to be HOT today for the game, no shade, and no clouds. We shall see how we do with this weather. We have not been to an outside game since Seattle last where we are layered three shirts deep and a jacket. We will not be wearing the heavier throwback jerseys to this game. It will be a miracle to keep more than a t-shirt on.

When we came into the welcome center in Florida, Captain Bob and the Admiral went exploring. They came across this cutie in a NASA suit commemorating the fact that Cape Canaveral is in Florida. I wonder if her first question every day is "Does this uniform make me look fat?" "No, but I could sure fix you up on a blind date with the Michelin Man." She was not amused.

While we were in Georgia we got a call from a long lost nephew and his wife, I used to babysit him when I was a kid. They live in Jacksonville and wanted to see us. I am such an awkward duck sometimes, worrying, not knowing what it would be like to see someone I really don't know and have not seen for 30 years or so.

Friday the 13th we arrived in sunny, humid Florida. We arrived mid afternoon to the Jacksonville area.We checked into Skidaway State Park and gave them a call. We arranged for them to come to the park and we would go to the beach and hang out. Early that morning Bob went to the beach on his bicycle and checked it out. He came up with the following pictures.

Del and Kim arrived at about 11:30 AM and we showed them the rig and had a quick chat. I was surprised at how well we could talk to them and what a delight it was to get to know them again. We had family in common and history so there was a place to start.

It was nice to see that Del has a really sweet and smart woman and he is the sweetheart I remember. He is my brother Dennis's son. They are going to the game tomorrow and want to meet Johnny. We will see them again there before we head north for the next piece of wandering we are doing.

My brother lives in Kingman, AZ and I don't get to see him much.

This was a good day and a good reunion!
